| Abstract: | Between 1875 and 1890 the small optical workshop of Carl Zeiss in Jena developed into a modern factory for mechanical/optical precision instruments. This change was the result of Ernst Abbe's theoretical work in the field of microscopic image formation which he had started in the second half of the 1860s and brought to a certain conclusion in the middle of the 1880s. |
