Abstract: | Office automation may not be the productivity boon it's supposed to be if it undermines employee health. Repetitive stress injuries, radiation-related illnesses, and vision impairments can result from long hours at computer terminals unless managers modify and improve working environments. Healthy, safe, and comfortable employees are more productive. As a move is made further into the era of automated offices and an information-based economy , it is crucial that managers understand the changing environment in which people work and the need for compatible offices. |
