Abstract: | This article reviews the British Industrial Revolution (BIR) and aims to explain why Britain was such a technologically creative society. The author uses accounting ideas to explain Marxs theory that industrial capitalism first appeared in Britain. The author concludes that, by thoroughly testing Marxs theory, accounting historians can make an important contribution to a major historical debate. |
