Abstract:This research note comments on Starbuck's article about the causes of faddishness in the social science research (Starbuck, B. (2009). The constant causes of never-ending faddishness in the behavioral and social sciences. Scandinavian Journal of Management, 25(1), 108-116). It articulates why Starbuck's fight against the four misbeliefs plaguing behavioral and social sciences electrifies and elates the writer, making her hesitate and scruple. Her suggestion is that in addition to searching for culprits from the concepts of science, it might be illustrative to take a critical look at more encompassing conceptions. So, the academics should debate and appreciate the fundamental ontological and epistemological assumptions and beliefs and the consequent conceptions of what constitutes research and science.
