Abstract:It is shown how familiarity with economic history can be helpful to managerial decision making. Some characteristics of the historical method in social sciences are described and analyzed. The role of theory building and measurement in studying economic history is discussed. The development of modern management in capitalism is examined. A number of structural characteristics of organizations are considered in relation with the most important behavioural aspects of management. The relationship between strategy and structure in the course of corporate development is considered from a historical point of view. The managerial problem solving is investigated assuming a world where the chance for rationality is limited.
