Abstract:Strategizing by companies from the resource-based view is concerned with the process through which companies acquire a distinctive bundle of resources that is costly and time-consuming for competitors to duplicate or imitate. Therefore, a major question facing any company is its strategy for accumulating the resources that underpin its production activities. This paper discusses the process of accumulation as one involving potentially both internal resource development and external resource acquisition, from the perspective of the strategic issues involved in making a choice between these options.
