Abstract: | Nine group discussions have been conducted with quantitative market research executives in three large, full-service research agencies. The issue of selecting the right people is examined, profile of applicants and of those selected by sex, age, type of institutions and degree subject is presented. The decision to apply for a job market research was tipically opportunistic, not planned, and the interest of applicants was a job, not a career in market research. The applicants' expectations and how they perceived the whole process is discussed , jobs in market research have been rated by applicants and are compared with other jobs as well as with the reality. Implications for employers are offered. |
