| Abstract: | This article presents an empirical analysis of just-in-time (JIT) manufacturing which moves beyond description and focuses on the impact of both JIT practices and their supporting infrastructure practices on manufacturing performance. The findings provide support for the notion that JIT is an overall organizational phenomenon rather than limited to strictly shop floor practices, and that at least part of its effect on manufacturing performance may be through providing a set of improved targets and discipline for the entire organization. |
