Abstract:The first article in this series defined cosourcing as a partnership between a customer and an outside vendor, where the vendor works with and often alongside-but does not replace-the existing staff based on specific skills needed to get the job done. Although this definition is adapted from an article on cosourcing the internal audit function, it is especially applicable to manufacturing in a Just In Time (JIT) environment. This is the second in a two-part series that considers the benefits of using cosourcing in manufacturing. Cosourcing is a supply chain method that provides closeness to suppliers while minimizing control loss. The paper states that cosourcing can be especially beneficial for satisfying Just In Time strategic issues involving time, quality, consistency, and cost.
