Abstract:Russia is one of the few countries which was again able to boast strong economic growth last year. Russia can now look back on no less than three successful years for its economy. However, it is not clear whether and how long the current upswing will last. The DIW Berlin believes that the Russian economy is still pursuing a course which is rife with danger. While the efforts towards institutional reform are highly welcome, a change in the direction of economic policy is also required if lasting growth is to be guaranteed. In particular, better conditions must be created so as to halt the decline in enterprise profits.
