Abstract:In this article the understanding of high-performance work systems (HPWSs) is expanded by investigating the information sharing practices of companies operating in different countries to evaluate the extent that high-involvement-oriented information sharing in organizations is affected by home-country economic structures and national cultural factors. Company-level data from a 12-country sample is used to assess the use of formal information sharing practices for non-managerial employees. The findings indicate that information sharing practices vary by country and that cultural similarities based on geography exist within the three information content areas of business strategy, financial performance, and organization of work.
