Abstract:Household consumption in Switzerland is discussed. Population trends are outlined. Population development is analyzed by region. Data are presented about household composition by size. The proportion of one-person households is extremely low by European standards. Housing costs are very high. Family structure patterns are analyzed according to family relationships and number of children. A table is showing housing by size and type. Ownership and occupancy patterns are outlined. Household incomes and expenditures are discussed, the consumption structure is analyzed. Swiss households spend a surprisingly small proportion of their incomes on food.
