Abstract: | The first purpose of this article is to develop a framework for analyzing the consumption culture and its critiques. The proposed model includes: (1) a micro/personal level of analysis that takes into account consumer needs theories; (2) a macro/external level that takes into account both facilitating factors and socioenvironmental factors; and (3) a classification of the critiques (not of the critics themselves), which are examined in terms of focus and joint evolution with the consumption culture. The second purpose is to illustrate how the model might be used to frame and analyze controversial issues in macromarketing. The relationship between environmentalism and the consumption culture is used as an example. |
