| Abstract: | How do managers make promotion decisions? Do political factors influence promotion decisions? Recent reviews indicate that little is known about how managers select subordinates for promotions. This is surprising since promotion decisions bear important implications on career development, motivation, and equal employment opportunity. The aim of this paper is to investigate promotion decisions by managers when their dependence on subordinates, and the threat to that dependence are systematically varied. |
