Abstract:The Botswana Development Corporation is now in the process of divesting some of its most profitable holdings. Is this a case of selling the family jewels for a handful of silver? "One of the lessons we have learned over the past few years, " says Mr M O Molefane, the Managing Director of Botswana Development Corporation, "is that the pace of divestment should be slow. It should be dictated by the needs of the Corporation , not the pressure to divest". On the face of it, this is a surprising statement coming in the wake of a P200m profit last year, largely as a result of BDC selling off its total holdings in the thriving breweries industry.
