Abstract:As the developing countries of the world spiral into deeper debt, the industrialised "donor" states appear less and less willing to provide them with aid. ANVER VERSI tackles the impossible in an attempt to define the meaning of aid today. Few topics arouse emotions as much as aid. Aid has been described as the "support that cripples" , as the "gravy train from those who have to those who have" and as the "aid to poverty". It has also been described as the "lifeline of the developing world", as a "raft to the drowning" and as the "aid to development".
