Abstract: | Research shows the best project performance is obtained when there is high collaboration btw. client and project manager (hereafter as: pr-m. ), and medium levels of structure, when the pr-m. and project owner work together in partnership, and the pr-m. is empowered. Unfortunately, this is not how it happens on many projects. This paper offers the principal-agency relationship (here as: p-a-r.) btw. client and pr-m. as one reason for this. However, communication btw. the client and pr-m. is offered as a way of reducing this problem. It is suggested what communication the client needs from the pr-m., and what communication the pr-m. needs from the client to minimize the impact of the p-a-r. The results of an international study are reported into communication needs on projects. |
