Abstract:This article analyses resident attitudes toward tourism in popular tourist destinations. An empirical study from Chingoteague Island in Virginia shows that full time and part-time residents differ in terms of their perceptions of what was at stake with regard to living in a popular tourist resort. Four stakeholder groups were identified with members identifying three different types of stakes: equity, economic and influencer.
