Abstract: | In the U.K. and elsewhere, the leadership (hereafter as: l-ship.) roles of pro-vice-chancellors (PVCs) have developed notably during the last three decades. This is due the encouragement for universities of shifting towards more executive styles of l-ship. and decision-making. Most PVCs are selected from the ranks of professors. The role's authority comes through influence, rather than command, depending on academic experience and credibility to be effective. This research warns of a simple model of executive l-ship. |
