Abstract:A report is presented about the West German market for all forms of edible oils and fats. Main products are: butter,margarine,vegetable oils and animal fat. Total demand has contracted slightly throughout the 1980s. Tables are showing data about production by value and volume. Import trends are outlined. The most important market segment is that of margarine,butter is the second. Basic ratios of socio-economic patterns of oils and fats purchasing are summarized. The most important home manufacturers are listed. Undisputed market leader is Unilever. Market shares of others are presented as well. The outlook for oils is excellent at the expense of fats and lards.
