| Abstract: | Austria is being viewed as the foothold within the EU offering an outlook towards middle and eastern Europe. Michael Blanden reports from Vienna. For Austria the prospect of EU membership has also focused renewed attention on the need to carry further the restructuring and consolidation of the country's over banked and overbranched financial services industry. The banks have mostly been doing very nicely as they have started to work off previuos bad debts. |
