Abstract:China is vast in territory. On the land boundary line reaching as long as 22,000 kilometers, 9 provinces and regions including Heilongjiang, Jilin, Liaoning, Neimengu, Gansu, Xinjiang, Tibet, Guangxi and Yunnan border on 15 countries respectively. The total volume of frontier import and export trade in 1992 rose rapidly to over US$ 3.95 billion. China's frontier trade has two functions which find expression in promoting the domestic construction and expanding opening to the outside world. But there still exist some problems in this line China's frontier trade is facing challenges from three aspects: competition with the neighboring countries, chaotic competition between different areas at home and imperfect conditions of border areas themselves.
