Abstract:Global competition and increasing technological advancements make it imperative that managers gain a better understanding of the total manufacturing process and production cost controls. U.S. manufacturers need to reconsider the strategies needed to stay competitive. One such effort is the process of ongoing improvement based on synchronous manufacturing. The objective of synchronous manufacturing is to increase throughput while reducing operating expenses and inventory. To accomplish this, management must examine the links between decisions, actions and bottom-line profitability.
