| Abstract: | The article explores group formation and group-specific behavioral norms. Members of popular group may contribute more to the group's local public good in order to secure their membership than they would if group formation were exogenous. The presented model, in which a principal will favor exogenous or endogenous group formation depending on whether he prefers high or low levels of the local public good, provides one explanation to group-specific behavioral norms. |
