| Abstract: | Some improvements are proposed concerning the normative theory of international trade under the conditions of monopolistic competition. A distinction is made between the production costs and the product differentiation costs which allows to foresee geographical localization of production. A methodological analysis of the models of international trade is provided. Some important conclusions are drawn from the study of the generally accepted models. The problem of the optimal product diversity is examined. The case of price discrimination is also investigated. The principles of a revision of the existing models are summarized. |
