Abstract:Analysing the strategic management and entrepreneurship literatures, this article seeks to specify the essence of entrepreneurial opportunities and the entrepreneurial strategies that companies use to commercialize these opportunities. The authors find three different schools: the economic school, the cultural cognitive school and the sociopolitical school. The first school stresses the importance of the distribution of information about material resources in society, the second school stresses the significance of environmental ambiguity and the cultural resources available, and the third school stresses the significance of network and political structures. The authors integrate these perspectives in order to provide better understanding of the opportunity creation and exploitation process.
