Abstract: | STAR TV, the first commercial pan-Asia television service, commands huge potential as a communication network. Four ideal types are proposed to capture the variations in national policy responses to STAR TV: namely, virtual suppression, as represented by Singapore and Malaysia; regulated openness, as represented by Hong Kong and the Philippines; illegal openness, as represented by Taiwan and India; and suppressive openness. |
