Abstract:This article explores the use of the Competing Values Framework of Organizational Effectiveness and Managerial Leadership as a tool for helping organizational members better understand the similarities and differences of managerial leadership roles at various levels of hierarchy. Based on a series of interviews, similarities and differences between managerial roles at different levels of organizational hierarchy are examined. Three organizational interventions are described which use the Competing Values Framework in order to increase managers' communication and understanding across levels. These interventions focus on management education and development, performance appraisal and team building across levels of hierarchy.
