Abstract:Qualitative methods now enjoy wide legitimacy among organizational researchers. This paper identifies circumstances where treating qualitative research as closet rather than an open activity would be better option. The circumstances are: when weak qualitative data lead to good insights; when describing the qualitative research reduces the quality of writing; when an outlet does not publish "empirical" papers; when writing for an audience remaining biased against qualitative research.
