Abstract:Numerical general equilibrium modelling is used to investigate the possible impact of various bilateral free trade arrangements involving the United States and Mexico in the two key factors of textiles and steel. The results clearly show that liberalization in both of these sectors is jointly advantageous for the USA and Mexico with the specifics of the liberalization package for the configuration of gains. These effects are not large, but Mexico is the larger gainer. The results also suggest that liberalization will have adverse effects in third countries.
