Abstract:The international capital markets have proved remarkably resilient so far this year. Bankers and borrowers have reacted to the most difficult market conditions since 1979 with a host of ground-breaking and innovative securities which have made the first half of the year the second most active six months in the history of the Euromarkets, raising almost USD 200 billion. Important lessons have also been learnt. Borrowers who listen to the market, and bankers who accept what the market tells them, have been able succesfully to bring deals that in previous turbulent markets would never have got past the pre-marketing stage.
