Abstract:Socio-technical Systems Theory (STS) and Total Quality Management (TQM) are widely recognized and used work design strategies, and this study addresses how these approaches can be combined to achieve simultaneously organizational flexibility and stability. The paper develops a theoretical model addressing the potential for synergistic integration of STS and TQM. An integrated approach could be established to promise to simultaneously foster stability, innovation, efficiency, flexibility, quality of worklife, continuous and discontinuous learning, psychological ownership, customer satisfaction, and high organization performance.
