Abstract:This paper describes a piece of action research which made use of an etnographic style of interpretive enquiry to improve the alignment of a health information system to the requirements of its users. The research was motivated, first, by a perceived lack of in-depth IS research to date conducted at the level of the individual, and second, by a desire to ascertain whether an ethnographic style of IS research might profitably be used together with a heavily practical interventionist focus, both areas which are currently underserved within the IS literature.
