Abstract: | It is argued that the usual method of basing a failure prediction model solely upon financial ratios is unlikely to be that successful for the small company sector. A number of non-financial variables suggested by Argenti's model of company failure are examined and via a step-wise logit technique, it is determined whether predictive models of failure can be developed successfully using publicly available non-financial information. It is concluded that the non-financial variables provide useful additional information when predicting small company failure. |
