| Abstract: | Since 1971, that is nine years after gaining its independence, Algeria has formulated an ambitious Science and Technology Policy. In the last few years, the relevant administrative structure has been completed by installing a centralized body at the highest level. The evolution of both structure and policy of Algeria's research and development is examined. The extent of their coherence or harmony and their linkages with industry are highlighted. Although programs covered a wide range of industries, no significant success could be achieved. Applied research has not been kept closely enough to industry. Focusing on formal activities has limited the benefits too. Decentralization, proper R&D management are needed. |
