Abstract:The story describes the events which inspired the idea for a European journal. This idea was born in Germany. The initiative came from Werner Schuder at Walter de Gruyter Publishers in Berlin. A letter from Alfred Kieser dated 19 Apr.1977 is presented, containing the description of the project. The initiative came from De Gruyter, yet four other international publishers were contacted to see whether they would offer a better deal. As no one came with a better deal, thanks to the personal commitment of Werner Schuder, De Gruyter sent a draft Agreement with EGOS for publishing a journal called "ORGANIZATIONS: A multi-national and multi-disciplinary journal devoted to the study of organizations, organization, organizing, and the organized, in, of, and between societies".
