| Abstract: | In this article, a theoretical framework for explaining the phenomenon of selectively outsourcing information systems functions will be elaborated. Grounded on an analysis of nine different theories of the firm, transaction cost theory and resource-based theory are considered as powerful frameworks for explaining this pervasive contemporary phenomenon. |
