| Abstract: | In 2000 Belgium's federal Office of Scientific, Technical and Cultural (OSTC) affairs embarked on a foresight study. The aim was to highlight the major scientific and social problems that should be addressed in the next 15 years at the federal level, with a particular emphasis on sustainable development, the emergence of the information society and social cohesion. The objective was to obtain in each field qualitative data on the middle- to long-term developments in the areas of technology and science as well as in the field of economy and society and to identify the strategically important domains for federal science policy. By means of focus groups, experts identified important research themes and ranked them. |
