| Abstract: | The managers of the German banks feel threatened by the integration process within the European Community, because their financial institutions are too weak for the sharp competition with Europe's large banks. They are afraid that acquisitions, bankruptcies and mass dismissals are in store for them. The present state and the possible outlook of the German bank industry are investigated. As to the latter, special emphasis is given to the impact of the completion of the single European market. Senior managers of six important banks are interviewed concerning their strategic strength and weakness. |
