Abstract:Britain has taken a world lead in giving small and medium size business access to the capital markets. And the USM (Unlisted Securities Market) is an important part of the process. Notably, Britain's new enterprise economy rewards growth, initiative and achievement, and the USM is one of the arenas in which such rewards are made. However, the track record of the USM has been worse than expected. It is less successful than small companies on the main market. Until it resolves its problems, including weak liquidity the withdrawal from the USM of many financial advisers, USM companies will suffer from the consequences.
