Abstract:It is described how Westinghouse strives to link the technological expertise of its Science and Technology Center with the commercial, marketing and engineering expertise of its business units. They have two programs to address the pivotal problem of how best to satisfy the longer-term needs of the operating units. The innovative technology transfer program accommodates products or services to the current businesses of the corporation's business or operating units. This program helps Westinghouse grow into new businesses. The other program, the business alliance program was designed to help to resolve the operating units' dilemma of long-term growth versus short-term performance.
