Abstract: | Asia-Pacific monetary co-operation moved a step further toward becoming institutionalied in July when the regional central bankers' club, known as EMEAP, held its first meeting at governor level. EMEAP could prove the forerunner of an "Asian BIS" -- modelled on the Basle based Bank for International Settlements. Heads of central banks and monetary authorities from EMEAP's 11 member countries met in TOkyo in July and drew up a potentially far-reaching agenda for regional co-operation. |
