Abstract:A new contest is being played out among the US banks and securities firms, this time on a global scale. The name of the game is investment banking. New York's "bulge bracket" securities houses have come to be a dominant force in international cross-border advisory and new issue business. In the process, they have eaten away at the traditional corporate client base of the big banks. The banks are also facing growing competition as a result of the rapid consolidation of the US banking industry.
