| Abstract: | The old communist tradition has been swept away with the election of a new coalition government. But will the delicate relations within it last the course? It is tempting, but maybe a little too soon, to regard the outcome of last month's parliamentary and presidential elections as marking a turning point in Romania's post-communist transition. For the first time since the overthrow of the Ceausescu regime in 1989, this country of 23 million people is now being led by a non-communist president and is governed by an anti-communist coalition. |
