Abstract:Banking is a high risk business. The spotlight has been on trading and investment activities where individual operators can damage even the biggest banks. There has been demands of creating systems capable of monitoring and controlling risk exposures. The new initiative for banking supervision is a set of 25 "core principles" Risk management in financial institutions needs to cover strategic, financial and operational risks. The globalisation of banking and the increasing overlap between traditional commercial banking and other activities including trading, securities business and insurance, have made banking more complex.
