Abstract:The Kazak economy is becoming visibly more robust by the day, both in absolute terms and compared with other former Soviet central Asian republics and indeed with most other states that used to form part of the former Soviet Union. Last year, Kazakstan's recorded gross domestic product is reckoned to have risen by between 0.5% and 1.0% - the first upturn since the long sustained decline began in the late 1980s, which more than halved the republic's recorded economic output.
