Abstract:Southeast Asia's only landlocked country , the Lao People's Democratic Republic, has tended to be largely overlooked by the international business community. With a population of just 4.5 million, spread across a country roughly the size of the United Kingdom, and governed by a communist government in Vientiane that still maintains a relately low profile, it is perhaps not surprising that Laos gets little attention. The average per capita income is just $350, with many of its citizens living at a semi-subsistence level.
