Abstract:Taiwan's financial markets continue to experience rapid change, even though woes, ranging from political uncertainty to an epidemic of pig foot and mouth disease (FMD) in March, threaten to take the gloss off the economy's stock-market-led rebound. The surging securities market and the impetus it has given to domestic consumption, has helped lift the economy from last year's lacklustre growth of 5.7% in real GDP terms to 6.8% expansion in the first quarter.
