Abstract:The fear of global financial crisis is spurring discussion about fundamental changes to the international monetary architecture. Crisis will again provide the backdrop to this year's annual meetings of the IMF and World Bank in Washington, as it did last year in Hong Kong. But whereas a year ago it was possible for the Bretton Woods twins to cling to the comfortable fiction that them Asian collapse was a local affair, it is hard now for them to escape the fact that a politico-economic crisis of global and systemic proportions is threatened.
