Abstract:The growth of the social and behavioral sciences has strongly suggested the need to more fully integrate methods that address the relationship between the researcher and the object of study with the knowledge that such methods generate. Countertransference and parallel processes have become a newly appreciated facet of organizational research and consultation. These phenomena arise as the consultant and client relate and tend to complement or reflect dynamics that exist within the organization under study. In this article, the author provides an examination of Countertransference and parallel processes, a historical review of their theoretical and methodological evolution, and an application to three cases according to an embedded intergroup relations perspective.
